So whirls the world around!
1. You're a handsome devil. What’s your name?
Sara, Sally Sue (rare), Saranwrap, Boomda, Cloud, Cloudina, Nubecita and other variations on the theme (thanks to
jobiska; "Sarin, Saron, Saran" (thanks to one Spanish-speaking friend); Sarawami (thanks to another); Sarita (occasionally).
2. Ever write under any other name?
Sarasusa and Sarasusamiga.
3. Look around you. How the hell did you end up here?
Because
ideseth happened to mention it, and I got curious.
4. Are you nice like me?
No. You're nice like you; I'm nice like me. And I'm not overly fond of the word "nice."
5. Have you ever had to explain fanfiction to someone in real life?
Several times--some more successfully than others. Several folks are touchingly encouraging of this odd pastime of mine.
6. Have you ever co-written anything?
Goodness, yes. The works don't usually see completion--but my friend A and I did finish "Galeta" in high school. That was fun. I've loved co-writing with family members and friends--wish I could do it more seriously.
7. How far have you gone to research a story, baby?
Borrowing books from the library; searching online; getting a friend to take me to Dave & Buster's so I could get a feel for the game of pool.
8. Which character that you write are you most like?
I used to identify a lot with my characters Galeta, Mergry, Earwith and Leonardos.
I felt a strong degree of empathy with my version of Ishizu (Yu-Gi-Oh!).
9. Which character that you write are you least like?
...The beauty of writing fiction is that you can take bits of yourself and spin them into full-fledged characters--the beauty of fanfiction is that you can take other writers' characters and focus on the facets with which you most relate. If I didn't feel I shared *something* with them, I wouldn't be writing about them.
10. Any original characters?
Yes. ::pointing above:: (They--and their worlds--still live for me, though they'll never see formal publication.)
11. Did you ever name an original character after someone you know in real life, and then one day you mention it in passing because it's funny for some reason at that moment, and (s)he gets all freaked out about it, because, look at what you write?
"Galeta" had a couple of schoolmates' names backwards ("Nosneb" and "Najib"--satisfying names for a fantasy story!). I think we kept one of the names and ditched the other when the person in question reacted negatively.
12. What’s your favourite line from the last story you wrote?
Heck, I dunno. [No, that's not it.]
13. Favourite line from the last story you read that was not your own?
It isn't the last story I've read, but for some reason this line has always stayed with me since the age of elevenish: "Then you will certainly not be chosen, Peregrine Took!" It isn't that spectacular in itself--it doesn't even make sense out of context--but at the time I could *hear* Gandalf saying it in biting retort to Pippin.
14. Favourite line from the song you're listening to right now, or last listened to?
Not listening to it now, but it ran through my mind lately: "Will you touch me, my brother?/Will you call out my name?/For the God that we speak to/is the same." (From "Behind the Mechitza" by Shefa Gold.)
15. What's the last movie you saw that inspired something ficcish in you? Sure wasn't the Yu-Gi-Oh! movie--that *un*inspired me. :-| I guess movies don't inspire me the way series do.
16. Is there a character you'd like to write, but can't-- and why the hell can't you?
Not one that's occurring to me. Plots, more than characters, are what daunt me. -_-
17. We all hate favourite questions, I know, but-- who's your favourite character (a) to read? (b) to write?
To read? Any character that stirs empathy in me. Also, I inexplicably adore Yotsuya in _Maison Ikkoku_--he's a manipulative mooch with unutterable gravitas.
To write? Any character that will help me sustain a plot.
18. Who's your least favourite character (a) to read? (b) to write?
To read? Any character who seems despised by their author (or fanfic author)--the dislike seeps through in the writing and wearies me. To write? None really.
19. Is there a story you'd like to write, but can't-- and why the hell can't you?. Yeah. That one. And the one over there. And their cousins. Why can't I? Ask them--they're the ones playing hard to get.
20. What's a title you've always wanted to use, but haven't had the opportunity yet?
Don't have one.
21. What was the first story you ever completed, and what do you think of it now?
Too far back for me to remember in detail! I'm sure it was both wandering and endearing.
22. What was the last story you completed, and what do you think of it now?
"Hypothetically Speaking" (Yu-Gi-Oh! fanfic). Light and silly.
23. Where do you do most of your writing?
In my apartment.
24. Do you have any fic taboos?
Hmm. Probably the main ones are (1) I won't bash characters and (2) I avoid writing carelessly about life experiences that I haven't had personally (particularly abuse of various kinds). (I don't think of writing across gender lines in this light, though.)
25. What made you start writing fic? Were you filled with creative juices, or was it a random act of plot correction? I loved to read. I had a lot of creative juices as a kid. Now, I write both for the satisfaction it gives me and the convivial feeling of being part of the fanfic community. ^^
26. Who has influenced your style the most? Urk. Probably the whole Regency romance genre; fantasy authors C. S. Lewis, Ursula Le Guin, Diana Wynne Jones and J.R.R. Tolkien; also English and other children's authors, ranging from Rosemary Sutcliff to Elisabeth Beresford to Hester Burton to Barbara Willard to Geoffrey Trease to E.M. Almedingen to Lloyd Alexander to Laura Ingalls Wilder to L. M. Montgomery to... ::recollects self:: Um, basically, lots of people.
27. What is the sexiest word?
Tentative. Humming. Añorar ("to long," "longing"). Quisiera ("I would like"). Thee. Ay. Petiole. Nestle. Dandle. Treasure. Gaudeamus. Surrender.
28. What is the least sexy word?
Rubbery. Sedative. Bluster. Gelatinous. Halliburton. Rabid. Dander. "In God We Trust." Patriotism.
29. What's the word you use too much/often?
I try to be careful to vary my verbiage--I think my real problem is repetitive sentence structure.
30. You're a writer. By definition you are plagued and pursued by images. So what image is burned into your brain right now?
::whimpers:: none! I've failed my calling!
31. If you were going to write professionally under an assumed name, what would that name be?
The Incomparable Heffalump.
32. If you'd made out this survey, what question would you have asked that I didn't?
What's your greatest weakness as a writer, and what's your greatest strength?

Date: 2004-10-27 02:02 am (UTC)Dandle? You usually hear that about babies...
Actually the only one I agree with you about is "thee." All the unsexy ones are indeed unsexy though. Especially in combination. "The rubbery dander on the gelatinous scalp of the Halliburton executive made me feel rabid"
