I've been poking away at a Yu-Gi-Oh fic from Yuugi's POV. Most of my stories seem to stick stubbornly to some combination of the anime/manga plots; so far I haven't been led in the direction of writing alternative-universe stories, though I've read & enjoyed many.
I wish Takahashi made fuller use of the potential in his plot and his characters. DuelMonsters are impressive to look at, but the card-game plot device seems--well--limiting. It's time all these experienced duelists stopped saying "Nani???" with looks of amazement and dismay on their faces in response to any unexpected move by their opponents.
